Well that's because objects are disappearing in apartments right now, it's a pretty serious bug and it's advised to never edit, visit, live in, or even look into an apartment. Pretty much don't even touch them with a 50ft pole; here's a thread about the broken apartments. As for the missing objects' return, I don't think you'll get them back anytime soon.
Yeah, I know about the apartment glitch, but I couldn't help it, I HAD to get my family out of there. lol So I did move them, they did lose three dinning chairs, a radio, coffee maker, and computer, but the rest of their stuff was there. So I grab it and moved them out.
But just like I stated in my OP, this was happening before the apartment glitching. I picked the stay option when I moved them out, yet when I got them in their new place, and went into the family inventory to start unpacking, ALL of the items that I wanted to stay behind was in there. *sigh* I must be doing something wrong.
Before the latest patch, I had moved a household of four and their dog from their apartment to a more spacious house. What I did was I kept the items I wanted to bring along into their household inventory, and any items I didn't want brought along left it in the apartment itself. When I had them move out through Live Mode, I chose their new house and opted to sell the furnishings. When I got to their new house, all the items they kept in their household inventory and their personal ones transferred with them, and they got the extra money from selling the ones still left at the old apartment. That worked for me well at least.
Yup, I've done that as well. But I was trying to leave the apartment furnished, because normally when I have a sim move out (either an apartment or house) and I leave the items, they don't stay. So I have to go into the newly moved out place and add new bathroom items, kitchen items, etc. I was hoping for a way to leave things behind without having the replace them myself. But it looks like, at least for me, this is not an option. lol
