Rabbit inside a ghost?

Simmerville​, yes, that is from L&D. My sim, Dulci, was taken out by a meteor early in her life. I noticed the fireball inside her ghost form and thought it was great for pics. What I didn't enjoy so much was the repeat 'performance' of the fireball every so often. 

I also think if meteor impact is the way a sim dies, then the big chunk of space rock should at least leave behind one of the minerals in its impact crater. I mean, really. Sheesh! 😝

If a ghost has a rabbit inside, it means that they were killed by a rabbit (even if you hadn't seen that happen.)

All of the various death types have something about the ghost that shows up inside the ghost to tell you their cause of death. It's been a feature in the game long before Life & Death. It's one of those quirky things the Sims likes to put in their games.

Oh, I did not know they can be killed by the evil bunny when we do not play the lot. I just saw the rabbit head in the ghost of a sim who recently died (from old age I assumed).

So the game will actually pick a random death whenever a non played sim dies? I never see younger sims die on lots not played, so they are all up around 80-85 years old.

And another detail, why is the rabbit head showing at some times, but at other times - same ghost - it is not there.

Also see they keep changing colors, at least some of them do. In the past it was the color that said something about cause of death, but that must have been replaced with those in-torso symbols at some point. I never focused a lot on ghosts in my game, so I will have missed most changes like that.

Ouch, the least you would think is that when sim is killed by meteor, at least their family left behind could benefit from selling that crystal. I would have spent several simdays looking for the gem, LOL.

I think the gems left by lighting will vanish after a while, so maybe your crystal vanished too? If playing another lot when it happened, it might technically be many days since ago already.
