If your alien abductions are too rare for you, have a sim use the observatory a lot. My Munch family has and uses one and most of my abductions have been in that household, or whoever I rotate to next. I also have a household with a townie alien, but after a few weeks of playing him he stopped being abducted and doesn't seem to increase anyone else's chances anymore either.
You can also trigger vampire break-ins by having a family member research vampire lore. This one appears to be household specific, as it occurred in the rotation after the one doing the research moved out, but the vampire still broke in and drank from her sister twice.
Aliens did need a method of prevention that was easier to access than the satellite. Honestly I think the method of avoiding each occult type should be something you can do without cheats from day one of buying the pack, not something you have to earn by using the pack's other features. And then you should be expected to use it if you don't want that occult, rather than expecting them to be nerfed for everyone. An actual toggle would be better, and I do not understand why in game actions that trigger or prevent things are easier to program than toggles.
But as for Murphy beds, there's an obvious way to avoid the deaths which is not to buy the bed. If you choose to use the object, you're taking the risk. They don't actually take up less room than the traditional beds, so you can use all the other features of the pack without that specific object, so it's not at all like buying a pack because you want your sim to own a store and you get aliens because you didn't play a scientist instead. . If the complaints get too bad, they could patch in a version without the chance of death instead of nerfing it.
