Research and Debate is required to advance in a couple of the new careers (I'm not sure about Engineering) but outside of that there doesn't seem to be much to DO with it in day to day Sim life, unlike a lot of the other skills.
I discovered to my great chagrin that "lazy" is not a good trait for a Foxbury student. :D They refuse to jog or run ANYWHERE and riding a bike on that campus is a nightmare.
