My Simdom for a potato!
So, I waited for winter to roll around again, and it finally did. Monday morning, Aurora got River (just aged up to kid from toddler) out of bed at 3:00 am to visit Newcrest's Neighbourhood 1 (currently undeveloped due to an ongoing dispute between Speak for the Trees and Landgraab Industries).
Of course, there's a blizzard. Fortunately, Aurora is a resourceful mother and had a tent in her pocket (along with 20 frogs, two death flowers, five masterpiece emotion paintings and 12 pears). She whipped out the tent and River went back to sleep while she read the Wilderness Digest. (Did you know that you can learn herbalism recipes from the Digest?) At 5:00 am, however, the potato plant still only had the option to view. It needed a couple more days to start producing potatoes.
They returned home empty-handed, but at least River was fully rested and ready for his school day. The next day was Winterfest, and I think there's still some bug with travelling, so my Sims stayed home and celebrated the holiday.
Wednesday morning, they were back in Neighbourhood 1. Aurora now had the option to take a cutting from the potato plant, but I decided to have them stick around until 5:00 am in the hopes of a harvest. This time, she was not disappointed and took home three potatoes.
Alas, it was too cold to plant. The other plants in the greenhouse were perfectly happy with their heated environment, but there seems to be a bit of a bug with winter plants. Even in a greenhouse, it's 'too cold' when it's freezing outside. (I was able to plant something else, so there's nothing wrong with the greenhouse - I've had this happen before with spinach, another winter plant.)
Friday dawned, and the temperature finally rose above freezing. The potato has been planted. (It turned out that this was the last plant needed to complete the gardening collection.) My goal is to have 'perfect' harvestables from every possible plant, and I'm nearly there - I still need to perfect a few from Granite Falls and my potato. (Got the trash plant to 'perfect' last night. Perfect trash fruit. Yum.) :)
