Enoch, feeling absolutely heartbroken and freakish, feels he has no choice but to run away. He doesn't want to hurt his friends or his mother. The only place he can think to go is the abandoned church in Forgotten Hollow. But once he gets there, he's shocked to see that there's furniture and swept floors.
Eventually, he runs into the mistress of the house, Vlad's older sister Ebony! He apologizes for intruding and explains that he thought her home was abandoned. Once she hears his story and that Vlad was responsible for his demise, Ebony warmly accepts him into her arms, offering harbour from his troubles.
She feels compelled to teach Enoch about being a vampire, and they show off their powers to each other.

Enoch's long day is finally over, and Ebony leads him to the crypt where he chose a coffin to sleep in. As he entered the wooden box, he couldn't help but feel heavy. The weight of his actions and circumstance had not lifted at all, nor did he expect them to. At least he had stumbled upon the fortune of the kind Ebony.
