It would be weird if a freelance programmer get famous while a tech guru programmer will not. And freelance writers rarely get famous at all, especially not ghost writers...

There's a lot of potential with those freelancer careers, I can see them adding more and more over time, and modders making custom ones as well. Might be a little odd that they went with three things that are already in the game as it is (sims can do freelance programming if their skill is high enough, and the other two are basically the painter and writer careers without the regular working hours), but maybe that's just for testing the waters before they come up with things like freelance contract killer... Okay, maybe not, but... you get the idea.
I wish they had done a photographer freelancer career.
Do you have GF? I know we can now have our Sims register with the Ministry of Labor. (Speaking of word-choice, I would have gone with Department of Labor, but then again I suppose Ministry is more common in other countries?) Why not just register your Sim as a Photographer? My Sim is a Rock Star, since I use Road to Fame, which augments GF allowing for a singing career and live concerts. - Simmerville6 years agoLegend

You can opt any sim you play out of the fame system and they will no longer gain any fame.
Good to know. But seriously, I don't think there are many RL freelance programmers who would give autographs... Most freelancers I know are not at all famous, they often work from home (or rented office) because they want hourly freedom, they don't seek fame in particular. If they gain some fame, it would be within a smaller job related network, say among other freelancers doing the same thing, they won't have fans among the random person in the street, like a musician, actress or tv-personality might. So, my hope is that freelancers will at least not get famous until they reach a certain level of gigs/skills. - alan6506 years agoSeasoned Ace

The "Ministry of Labor" feature was actually added in a patch. I agree that freelancing could have so many additions in the future. I can't wait to have the freelancer career options in my game!! "Simmerville;c-17030914" wrote:

Just be sure you turn the fame off in the game BEFORE your sim starts to earn fame. Once they've already earned fame there is no way to turn the fame system off for that sim, but it can be turned back on for individual sims at any point. So I find it better to just have the fame system turned off from the start in all my saves and turn it back on for those that I feel it would apply to.
Also when playing without mods fame increases fairly slowly for sims who are not in the acting career. You just don't wrack up enough of it doing individual things unless you put a LOT of time and effort into it."VentusMatt;c-17030457" wrote:
I feel like they miss the opportunity to make a freelance photographer where we get sent out to take pictures at certain locations or pictures of certain objects in certain locations. Like "Take a picture of a sim using a treadmill at a Gym" or "Take a picture of a sim fishing". Photography needs more to it as pictures themselves aren't worth much.
let a modder do it"EmmaVane;c-17030728" wrote:

I really love the new freelancer careers (I’m a freelancer myself) and I really, really hope they will expand them in the future with:
- Photography (photography)
- Catering (cooking)
- Something with Handiness
- Interior Styling (really want this!)
I really wish they had gone for one of these options. I think the idea of freelance careers are very nice but there are so many other options they could have done instead of repeating careers we already have.
The freelance careers they added have the advantage of being able to be submitted digitally -- kind of hard to send macaroni and cheese through the computer. :p Perhaps they can figure out a way for non-digital works to be submitted.
Wouldn't need to be complicated at all. A freelance caterer could simply prepare the ordered delivery, then add those servings to a crate that could be left outside the door to be picked up by the customer. Either some uniformed delivery sim could actually pick it up, or the crate could simply vanish. If going the less realistic way, the servings could be put in the mailbox, as a "symbolic" final action.
For non-digital submissions you could also have a 2 part system:- Make/collect craftable/collectible
- Deliver to sim
The deliver part could be done by travelling to the sim's house (gigs would have to be from housed sims only) or event location (deliver a wedding cake to the venue etc), or by inviting the client over to collect the finished product. They could also improve the mail system in game so we can send things to sims that way.
We can already send items through the mail -- sending crystals etc. for analysis, licensing music etc. so possibly just tweaking the mailbox could work. Delivering food to a Sim would have the extra time pressure of getting it to the requester befor the food spoils to give an added challenge, and the delivery method could use the animation from gift-giving in Seasons (maybe just a plain package rather than the frully box). Maybe we'll see an expansion in a future patch.- Make/collect craftable/collectible

Yup, that should work. The player can opt a sim regardless of if they already have started earning fame in my experience. The global setting only affect sims without any fame, but the individual opt out on the fame perk selection screen works even when sims have fame."3KNPen;c-17030510" wrote:
@catmando830 it's something that's not out yet. It's coming in a patch along with other stuff next Tuesday I believe.
