No Same-Sex Dorm Rooms?

I don't know if I missed it, but from what I've seen, the dorm rooms are co-ed? I'm a college student myself, and every dorm room that I've seen are divided into just males and just females. I find it kind of odd that a male sim and female sim can share the same dorm room in the game.

I noticed while playing last night that I had the option to lock the room doors according to gender. I don’t THINK that’s due to a mod but maybe someone else can verify. ?

Not a mod, it's a lot type option selectable for University Housing.
