Now that sims can gain new traits, anyone know what to do to possible obtain klepto trait?

I haven't had the trait pop up out of the blue, but I do have one sim that I've played between two households so far, and I would keep noticing random decor and items going missing on the lot where she was and eventually found those things in her inventory. She even walked off with her previous household's boat. She still has it in her inventory, doesn't even live in Sulani anymore. And that poor family just doesn't have a boat.

I feel like it'll probably eventually pop up with her lol.

it hasnt happened to me yet either. ive gotten other traits before but not that one. hopefully someone will know something. good luck

I’d be interested to know what traits Sims can self discover and what ones they probably cannot…

I’ve had Sims discover Neat, Active and Proper so far.

When I was playing Eliza Pancakes through the super rich supervillain scenario, I enacted the Sharing Is Caring NAP in her neighborhood. (They never had anyone over, they just went to others' houses and swiped stuff.)
Somehow, after enough swiping using Sharing Is Caring, Eliza developed the ability to swipe anywhere, like any sim who had the klepto trait. (She didn't.)
I'm not sure if this was a bug, or by design, but I do wonder if swiping in this way might trigger a kleptomaniac self discovery for you?

I had a sim with a couple of money trees, and when she harvested from them one morning, she was offered the kleptomaniac trait.

Here I am, the creator of this thread (my attempt to understand self-discovery system through tuning files)!

Kleptomaniac is under Economy self-discovery category. This means two things:

• You can't have a self-discovery moment for Kleptomaniac if your sim has Materialistic trait.
  
• If your sim has Freegan trait, a self-discovery moment for Kleptomaniac trait will replace it.

While I don't know what exactly helps towards it, looking from notification texts, earning money and spending it on expensive things (artwork for example) can help towards it.
Though your sim can be suggested Materialistic trait instead. Reject it and do the same until your sim gets suggested Kleptomaniac trait instead.
Should you accept Materialistic trait, you could work towards Freegan trait and then towards Kleptomaniac trait again, but should you succeed, all your sim's 3 self-discovery opportunities are spent.

Not sure it’s possible, the only way to swipe stuff is with the trait. Maybe it’s possible if you create a club with swiping objects as a club activity. I checked, it’s under mischief and mayhem. Good luck to anyone trying
