occult babies

I don't know if this is a bug or intentional... Please take no offence to how I word this. It's that my mind is saying... why sims why? This is not meant to be a rant but more an observation on my part.

If I have 2 aliens try for a baby I get an alien child.
If I have 2 vampires try for a baby I get a vampire child
If I have 2 mermaids try for a baby I get a mermaid child.
If I have two spellcasters try for a baby I get an ordinary sim. No spellcaster child. I thought gee maybe it's my mods. I tried this vanilla and got the same results. human non-spellcaster children every time. Yet toddlers and children who aren't even spellcasters or have spellcasters in the household end up in the Magic Realm. Even tried going vanilla doing the work and having my sim try for a baby with another spellcaster even a Sage. Same results of human non-spellcaster children every time no matter what when I try for a baby.

It seems the only way to have spellcasters have spellcaster children is either cheat it in after the baby has become a tot, have the spellcaster parent bring the child to the Magic Realm the child ask a Sage for a Glimmerstone or through play with genetics. I'm baffled by this, to say the least. Since none of my spellcasters trying for a baby with another spellcaster never ever have spellcaster children. I thought maybe my spellcaster has to try for a baby with a Sage. Nope, the same thing happens. What is up with this. Please fix this, devs. My mind cannot wrap itself around this flawed concept.

I don't know if I would call this a complaint but if two of the same occult are trying for a baby shouldn't they have the same occult as a child?

Please fix this. As entertaining as it is to play with genetics sometimes I really do like to try for a baby to have children. Sometimes I really do want my sims to have kids the old fashioned way. Sometimes I want to see them have a family of their own and see how many generations I can get before getting bored and starting all over again.

Long live the Vampire Coven started by Lilith Vatore may they one day snuff out the light of the sun and in the end turn them all. May our beloved beautiful Lilith become The True Mother and Queen of Vampires.

May spellcasters start having spellcaster kids with other spellcasters.

Really this was only meant to be an observation on my part and not a rant.
  • That's strange. So far, all children in my game whose both parents are spellcasters were born as spellcasters, not a single human child from more than 10 pregnancies.
Have you tried repairing your game?
  • I had a spellcaster/human couple get twins, one turned out to be a spellcaster, the other a human.
  • Yeah, all my spellcaster + Spellcaster pairings have resulted in Spellcaster kids. I only sometimes get non-spellcaster kids if one of the parents is not a spellcaster. There have been a few non-spellcaster kids in otherwise spellcaster homes via MCCC, but I always figured they were from previous/other spellcaster+non-spellcaster relationships.

Now, there was one sim, not one I was playing but one who was via MCCC's family progression function who was a non-spellcaster but otherwise had all the traits (strong bloodline) and all the rest of the household were spellcasters -although his father wasn't part of the household. (MCCC can make for some tangled family trees) I used MCCC to make him a spellcaster before he married into my main Sim family.

Weirdly, despite him having Strong bloodline and my sim family having ancient bloodline, their kid didn't have any bloodline trait. I figured it was a glitch due to mods and cheated it on.

Yes, I have repaired my game.

If it was just The Sages I would think it was because Sages may be able to have kids but because They are The Sages they are "cursed" with no spellcaster kids.
  • I have the opposite problem. I get a occult child every time even if only one of the parents is occult. My legacy spell caster family ans branches growing on its own with the command center mode and everyone one of them is a spellcaster even though lots of them have one non spellcaster parent.
  • I got an ancient bloodline baby with one human female Sim and a male spellcaster. I was trying to create a single parent situation for a story and forgot the NPC was a spellcaster. I never wanted to play with magic again so I moved on after the baby aged to a toddler and looked at her info.

To both you and the OP, after trying things out vanilla, did you delete the localthumbcache file? You need to delete that file whenever you alter your mods (ideally you delete it after every play session). Testing a game vanilla without deleting the localthumbcache file is useless.

Also, do you use MCCC and, specifically MCCC occult pregnancy settings in the MC Occult module? Because those have been awry for a while now, I'd suggest changing all those back to default if you do use them.

Deleting local thumbnail file I always do when I get a new pack after each repair and update, I also do that when testing to see if it's a mod or if it's a bug of some kind when playing vanilla. I remember when I first used mods it was explained to me to delete the localthumbcache before adding a mod and if I decided I didn't like mods to do that before going vanilla again. I remember that advice and did that. Thanks for the reminder. MCCC pregnancy setting is at default. Haven't had the need to change that from default settings at all.
