Living off the grid will mean new challenges, that's for sure. Especially if you play a small family consisting of two parents and a child or toddler. Rather than relying on the toddler tablet or video games for children, we're going to need to look at other ways to keep our Sims happy. I see a lot of interacting between family members that perhaps many of us overlook when electronics are in the home. Kind of like a getting back to the basics gameplay style. Perhaps the father is a fisherman, the mother tends a garden, and has to wash the family's clothing using the washboard and clotheline, the toddler or child playing outside and having a swingset. The family can attend the nightly communal dinner in town which would mean less need for cooking meals at home. With the beaches and collecting shells to sell, or perhaps taking advantage of a part time job, they would have their basic money needs met but still have time for interacting with the locals and becoming immersed in the island culture.
I am anxious to see how this lot trait will work when jobs are involved. I have watched every Game Changer vod I can find and haven't found the answer to my question yet. The one thing I won't miss is the many calls and text messages my Sims get during the day. And once my Sims go into another lot will they have dozens of text messages to read? LOL This happens to me whenever I decide to turn off my phone and take a break so I'm wondering if this will happen with my Sims.
I have a ton of ideas on how I will play around with this lot trait. At first, I thought about using it with my conservationist Sim but since they will need to have their cell phone active in order to receive the option to work at home or go into the office, what kind of workaround will we have to use? If researching on the computer has to be done as a daily task, my Sims can use the laptop at a community lot. I guess I will have to build an island coffeehouse afterall, which actually sounds like a fun idea.
One of the gurus, I believe it was SimGuru Morgan or SimGuru Frost, said laptops can be used with the off the grid lot trait, except the laptop can only be used for a limited amount of time. Think of it like needing to charge your laptop but with no power to do so.
