Years ago, it occurred to me that I needed to write the story that had been knocking around in my head. I had a terrific book that had a series of questions to answer about your Main Character, as a way of helping the writer to make them complete; one of which was about their life/biography. I had to create Brianna's family. In the course of doing so, I gave her four brothers: Aaron, Erik, Joey and Adrian. I made Erik Brianna's favorite of the four. He was during the brief time we spend with him in the mini-series, a struggling musician. But he was a minor character, so we learned little more than that. When I began playing Sims, it was great fun to translate my Cantrell family in the game. Erik could never be a singer in Sims2, but he did become the mayor at one point.
I brought this family forward into Sims3. When Showtime came out, my dream for Erik came true. He became a Superstar, Rock Star, great on the charts, but unlucky in love, as it turned out. I made the decision to play Sims4. Again, in the beginning, Erik was limited in what he could do. The Pinstar Legacy Challenge was adapted for Sims4, and that's when I decided to bring Erik into my game. I made him my Founder. He had discovered he wanted a family over all of the Fame he'd acquired. Since that Challenge requires we play on Normal, I said goodbye to Erik all too soon. Once I completed that Challenge, I decided I would play him again on Long, so that I could have enough time with him.
Some of you are aware of my woes in regard to lost or glitched saves along the way and the very many restarts. I've finally gotten over having to restart, in favor of a game save recovery or rollback. My last restart was February before the Infant patch was dropped. I do have a goal in mind for him, which has yet to be met. What I'll do when that happens, I don't know. I had another curiously odd glitch occur in my game recently. This save has been going strong since February before the Patch for Infants dropped. In fact, I had just gotten the save back to where I was two+ years ago, with his youngest girl, Cadence, aged to Child. Thankfully other players reminded me to make a copy of this save, which I did. The most recent glitch I encountered was Erik was out front of his house on New Year's Eve. I got a notice he was freezing to death, so I immediately put the camera on him. But neither he or his sister, Brianna, would move from their spot in the snow. I forget now how they got unstuck, but Erik made it inside where he promptly froze to death. :open_mouth: Punch to the gut.
To say I was in shock, is an understatement. I ended up writing his obituary while I still couldn't feel a thing. I posted it and the next day is when I cried. This after reading all the wonderful posts by so many other players. I even had put up a poll asking for suggestions on where to go from there. In the long run, the very nature of the glitch, coupled with the opinions of others, made me realize it was okay to roll back the save. But, yes, I do get very attached to my Characters, even in books I have written. So, it's not merely the game mechanics, in my mind. Erik was only a baby, briefly, in my game and never a Toddler.
