I actually upped the low and high range for pets with a tiny mod (I *think* it works lol) because I play on normal but I'd like my furry friends around a bit longer than the game lets 'em.

so pets will only age if aging is on for my sims??

I tested this out with the control mod that allows you to see the ages of pets. I took 3 groups of 7 pets with a mix of 3-4 dogs/cats each. These were all newly created in CAP. There are definitely no set ages for pets....they all varied along a range. I also found out something else very interesting....cats have longer lifespans than dogs! This is the case with real-life....but it's also the case here. In all 3 groups, the cats had consistently longer lifespans. Here are the numbers that I saw:

Puppies/Kittens:

Short Lifespan: 0-1 days
Normal Lifespan: 1-2 days
Long Lifespan: 4-6 days for dogs; 5-6 days for cats

Keep in mind that there are still the additional days before the auto-aging kicks in once they are ready to age up. On long, this is 4 extra days. So that's why puppies and kittens generally age up after around 9-10 days total on long. For short, you're looking at somewhere between 1-2 days total and on normal, you're looking at 2-3 days total.

Dogs/Cats (Adult):

Short Lifespan: 9-10 days for dogs; 11-12 days for cats
Normal Lifespan: 17-20 days for dogs; 21-24 days for cats
Long Lifespan: 69-79 days for dogs; 88-94 days for cats

These numbers do not include the extra day or days for auto-aging after the pet has filled their age bar. You shouldn't get more than 1 extra day on normal....but long lifespan should add 4 extra days to the above numbers before the auto-aging takes place.

This fact is also in The Sims 2 and 3...
Still, I'm going to do a research about elder lifespan as every site says it varies.
Wish me luck as I have to suffer through the long lifespan...

I play with aging off, but couldn't you just go into cas.fulleditmode and move the pet's age back to adult status? Save and then go back in the game?

Yeah, I tried aging them up to elders too but it just said how many days they had lived rather than showing remaining days left....so no data there and I wasn't going to play out all of those groups to elders, lol.

if you have age off for you sims you can use the "age up" pet treats :smile:

You can always buy the age down treat from the vets office if you don't want for Serg to die.

Haha., no I’m happy for him to age, I’ve had no acing on for a long time so it felt like natural progression. I know about the treats, but thanks for your kind tip. :)

are they something that has to be made at the craft table?? I wish there was a recipe at home that we could get our sims to make. I think the pets life's goes on far too long. I play on a long life, it just seems to go on and on. and they take up sim space in the family, where I would like to have a sims face instead. if we can't see a pets stats. surely they can be put somewhere else, and not take up one of the 8 slots allocated to sims. and preferably not on the screen.
