Rabbit holes don't bother me. Why? 1) While my sims are off at work, I flying around the world, taking pics, and "creeping" on my other sims. LOL Watching them go about their day. I like to see who's skipping school, who's late for work. What sim was digging through the trash bin, or just spending a day at the beach either swimming or fishing. The world is so active and immersive, you're not "stuck" just looking at the building where your sim works! 2) I open up my rabbit holes, where I'll build a grocery store, or the hospital, or even school. I'll add the rugs, but the lot itself is functional with community items. So while say in the school the kids and teachers are working, other visitors are reading in the library, or working at the science station, or even paint on an easel.
I like the step forward that the Sims 3 took. It was the natural evolution of the game! For me, I don't want to sit there and watch my sim write reports or run and get coffee for the boss all day. I don't mind the Ambitions careers, because again, I don't have to hold their hands while they are off working. I can leave them, they will level up, and earn pay at the same time. I love that I can have one sim at work, while they other sim or sims in the family can run or walk, or even drive around the world doing their own thing. There are no load screens, and there is no froze time on the home lot. My sims can get more things done in a day, than they can in my Sims 2 or Sims 4 game.
I know in the end it's an individuals preference on what he or she likes. But even in the Sims our simmies had a school bus to hop onto and a car pool that came and collected them. Now, they just walk off into nothingness. That, for me, breaks immersion. And just teleporting everywhere. Totally zaps it for me. To me, it seems like a cop out on EA's end, not wanting to put the added time or effort into giving them transportation. Just like making babies objects once again.
