Opinions on Cottage Living? Should I buy?

So I have recently started playing the sims again, and of course Cottage Living catches my eye. I love the cozy atmosphere it gives off, as well as...of course, the animals. My play style is more story and gameplay oriented rather then building or such. Would you guys suggest it, and is there anything like tips or bugs I should know about? When I bought Island Living, I was disappointed to see that after around 2 hours I was just kinda bored with it. How much playtime could I get out of this pack?

  • I’m not into gardening in the game even though it’s a big thing in this pack. The animals are the things getting my attention. Toddler with a pet bunny (I know you can’t actually have them as pets, but you get what I mean), and they can’t die off from age? Yes please.
  • Bunnies do stick around the lot and eat your weeds when the relationship is high enough and you place a stump for them to live. The birds help eat the bugs. Seasons, Eco Lifestyle, and this pack make living off the grid enjoyable. I like canning too. I like to think of the farm animals as the pets that don't take household spaces. With MOO cheat you can overlap the sheds to have two cows or llamas which is nice and I place the sheds like an L so Sims can still access them.
  • I imagine this would be great with Seasons. I haven’t ever been really fond of seasons, but now I’m getting more interested in it. Might buy it at the Black Friday or Christmas sale. From what I’ve seen, this and seasons are the most highly acclaimed expansions, if not packs in general.
  • I bought it, all I’ve done so far is looked at the townies and I’m currently looking at cas. They have a dress that has a swatch that’s black and looks all celestial. Love that thing. there’s a shirt that reminds me of a corset the way it is in the middle, my favorite so far.
  • I was putting so much hope on good adult female hairs and they came through. The braid, the really full hair-every single hair. It’s wonderful.
  • So happy you are enjoying it. I love the CAS in it too. Hairs have gotten so much better.
  • So, I own Cottage Living. Recently I tried to play a different Sim this time with San Maysuno (yeah I know I butchered that name) and it felt so off and boring to me (which is my go to world to play in) because I missed my simple farming town and the cute little animals that I went back to it again. So in other words, yes, buy it, it's so worth it.
  • I spent hours making a family of 5 (soon to be 6, since the moms pregnant) just to be a townie family and not to actually play unless I have one of my men to marry one of their daughters when they become YA, and my main sim for the expansion, Saerah. I genuinely enjoyed making them, especially Saerah, since she’s my Victorian lady I mentioned in previous paragraphs. She wasn’t supposed to be time accurate or anything, and there’s some things she’s wearing that a women who lived in the Victorian ages definitely wouldn’t wear, but it was so fun just experimenting. The entire time I was like “hey- that could work with her!” But of course I don’t have enough outfit slots.

I haven’t played a lot of gameplay, but this is the first time in a long time I’ve enjoyed playing a certain sim so much. I love exploring with her, and coming from somebody who barely goes anywhere in the game due to loading screens, I really don’t mind the loading screens as much when it comes to exploring the world. Call me crazy, but I think they’re faster. She’s going to be my rabbit lady who loves her rabbits to pieces- and of course her cats.

All in all, from what I’ve seen of it, it seems to be one of the most fleshed out expansions for gameplay (least from the expansions I have).
  • I think that if you want to play with the theme, this is a great pack. I'd make sure that you have an idea of what you'll do beforehand. I had been waiting for a countryside-themed pack and the English setting is actually right up my alley so this was a no brainer. I've kept myself busy making my own characters based on the pack theme and then playing them as they live in the new world.

Probably my only real complaint is that they should have fixed the general gardening bug that came with EL before releasing this. It means that flexibility is limited because you can't farm the broken old plants, only the new ones. For simple living, that complicates things too. Even so, I still like the pack. The new world is excellent throughout all of the seasons. There are varied things to do. It makes for a very fun setting.

Re, bunnies: I haven't played with them that much yet but you can befriend them and they can help with gardening if you build a relationship up. Cats might scare them off. Chickens and cows have a lot of gameplay. I haven't tried llamas. Chickens are susceptible to foxes, need tending, age and pass on. You can breed your own stock of chickens and gather different types of eggs. Foraging varies throughout the year.

I haven't played the village tasks much. Mainly I've added mostly my own sims who interact in the gorgeous new world. Farming, festivals and the pub along with outdoor activities add to what you can do in the world. I like the extensive outdoor settings. Also, some of the houses are basically perfect. The one that starts as a vacation rental in Bramblewood is pretty much my idea of a perfect house. Obviously, I'm probably going to move some lucky sims in there full-time.
  • Glad you enjoy it. Cottage Living is a great pack that comes with great CAS items, I often cannot even decide what to wear, finally too many good options! I love some hair options, and the clothing is great and comes in great swatches. I love the children and toddler clothing as well, we always need more of this. Build mode items are also awesome if you are into rustic. Although my game does get laggy when I live in Henford on Bagley so I tend to not live there anymore, although I love this world. The Simple Living lot trait is fun and got me into gardening, although when my garden gets to big, again the game gets laggy. Of course the animal part of the pack is very cute and keeps you quite busy, but I tend to only have a chicken coop and nothing else if I have a family with children, toddlers, cats and dogs, as there is not enough time to take care of too many things. For anyone reading this who is undecided, it depends on if it fits into your kind of gameplay, but I would always recommend this pack.
