Owning a business

I have been playing the same family for a while now and the kids are just about grown up. The sim I play most is the mom and she was staying home to take care of the kids instead of working. The dad is at the top of his career and doesn't work too much, also makes a ton of money. I was thinking of opening a business and having the mom run it while the kids are in school.

My question is, what kinds of businesses do you have your sims run? I don't want to do the typical options that come with the game like restaurants or retail etc... I was thinking maybe a yoga studio or something else.... How do you manage to make something like this? I'm not really interested in the money, I just want my sim to own a cool unique business.


EDIT I gave in and decided to use some mods. I downloaded the @LittleMsSam mods for live in business and the more buyable businesses. I look forward to testing these out. Hopefully they help me accomplish what I want. Thank you @littlemssam for these mods!

    As far as I know, you can’t really run a yoga studio and make money, as retail businesses are set up to make money selling stuff. It is possible to sell yoga and sports equipment I believe. And it might be possible to set up a place to do yoga somewhere in your retail business. I’m not sure if a yoga instructor would show up though, and you won’t make money from doing yoga.... I am not even sure if customers would join in doing yoga there. If you aren’t worried about making money you could make a small yoga studio at your house, and invite friends over, maybe use the get together club system to make a yoga club. You could also use a generic lot to set up a yoga studio, but you would have to invite friends there. Others don’t show up on generic lots unless invited. Or, you could make a studio using the spa or gym lot. Again no money though.

    It doesn't have to generate money. I do like your idea of selling wellness related stuff and maybe having a room for people to practice yoga. Is there any way I can have my sim instruct a class? Or do I just have to pretend?Maybe there is a mod for this... I don't usually use mods or cc.... I might for this though...

    I think when my sim earns a little more cash I’m going to open up a hair salon.

    using the Stylist mod your sim can give makeovers to sims in the town and earn up to 300$ per makeover.

    I’m also going to add decorative items to sell if I can find something that looks the correct theme such as shampoo etc.

    If your looking to make extra simola's for income, and really do not want to do the business aspect of it.. you can always have a painting club.. but there other things too.. some which are fun and easy.. as the Come And Get it Store.. you can set them up in your yard and have yard sales, or have a food stall .. or any of the other different stores. There is always the Flower Aranging Table.. or get the Mix Master Music Station and make sound tracks.

    @Corenren - I have the two LMS mods you mentioned and my Sim is running a Wellness Studio right on the home lot. I had to add in the optional add on 'work as yoga instructor' to the Live in Business Mod . You can hire a yoga instructor or work as one. So my Sim works as a yoga instructor. I open the business a few times a week, Sims show up, I have my Sim do a few classes and then I close the business.
    Like you, I dont' care about the money. I use this for storytelling and just another way for Sim to run a business outside of standard retail, vet, or restaurant.

    I've also tried the Live in DayCare but it was way too much for me to have one Sim work with all those kids. I have a large household so it wasn't for me. The Live in Gym using the Wellness by far is my favorite to run.
