Yes. Once you unlock a style/genre. Just stick to that one and your product value will increase (I haven't checked with books, but I'm sure someone elsewhere said you can specialise). If you keep switching between styles, it takes longer to make more expensive items.
I think it adds more character too. You could have a geeky sim who only writes sci-fi, romantic romance writer and insane sim that only paints surrealism as that's how they see the world, etc.
