I don't do parties anymore. Well, not the game version of parties, anyway. But when I do have gatherings I lock entrances to all the areas where I don't want guests to go, and I might also temporarily put items I don't want them to use in household inventory. That's usually sufficient for my purposes, and it should help at least some with the timed event parties, too.
