Patchy's post got destroyed, help

My sim has a very nice garden with Patchy the Scarecrow dutifully watching over, and watering the garden. He is free to move around as well. But the day Patchy's post got destroyed it was a horrible lightning storm going on outside, and Patchy took refuge indoors. My sim had to replace several items outside that was destroyed (only turned those items black with an option to replace). At the end of the day I was expecting to see Patchy walk out to his post to do what scarecrows do at the end of the day, but instead he just politely said it is getting late I must leave. And leave he did, he left home. When I went to look at his post this is what I saw.

Is there any way I can replace Patchy's post, or is the damage done?

I'd rather keep Patchy as a nonplayable sim.
