Personal Opinions on Seasons

So stead of reading the wiki which is unbiased in general. Tell me what are the good and bad of Seasons (besides death by heatstroke and freezing?)

  • There is too much that I like to list. My ALL-TIME FAVORITE Seasons thing is that Sims can slip in mud puddles. Endless entertainment.
  • The good:
Immersion in general - it's wonderful to see the ice on the windows and be cozy inside with the fireplace going. It's wonderful to see the leaves changing colors and weather having some effect on our sims. This is the great good that keeps it in my game.
Showering in the rain was really one of the only ways to get my off grids clean, it was a fun addition (mostly).
    Swing sets ... finally.
The calendar.. don't always use it or pay attention in every save but I like the preloaded holidays and know with a little effort on my part I can make them over... with less effort I can erase the bulk of them.
    Patchy rules!
Love the more traditional holidays with Father Winter and Flower Bunny especially, and getting the family involved in festivities when I'm playing them.
Opps forgot skating and gift giving.. Gift giving was a want/need of mine for a long time.

    The bad:
Too many cloudy days... it's gotten to me and makes me enjoy some worlds less.
The settings to turn off the weather not always working (but mostly working).... but still too many cloudy days..
The weather station thing is too big and rarely fits in my sims homes ... but can break if out in the weather. Hmm might need to start putting this in a utility closet.. just thought of that... maybe that's my answer.
I've had a hard time adjusting to gardening. The science garden was whacked because of the changes made. I don't like how rare some harvestables are on grafted plants.. the percentage is too low, you shouldn't have to wait a sim lifetime to have it propagate. I can't have a year round outdoor garden unless I splice everything onto sage bushes. I've had to get really creative to have larger gardens.
The tension that comes from storms... I get it but storms are so frequent if you don't have them turned off that it is often too much.
  • I'll start with the bad
Everytime a festival is happenning (like 90%) it also is raining. It is annoying and frustrating especially during Geekcon. Argh.
You don't know what weather is in a different town. If you live in Willow Creek you only know the weather in Willow Creek. If you want to know what weather is or will be in Newcrest you have no other choice but to travel there. Which is quite annoying IMO.

I agree gardening is a little harder but that's OK for me. The only time I was mad about this was when I desperately needed the death flower for Ambrosia. It only produces flowers in winter. That time I didn't know I could get these flowers if I had the plant inside. But whatever. Not a big deal after all.

    Good
    Basically the rest.
I really love build and buy objects. The kiddie pool, the new couches, armchair, dining table...
I also love all of the clothes.
I love the fact that the weather is different in each town. Makes total sense.
  • I love almost everything about Seasons. The weather and the changing of the plants are amazingly well done. (I used to hate the way the flowers and shrubs remained in bloom and green under the layer of snow in TS3). I don’t mind the limitations on the growing season of plants and use a combination of green houses (for my richer sims), and seasonal plants to have them steadily producing year round.

I do wish they would fix the Science Garden; I had to get a mod to send my scientist to work in the very early morning so the plants would grow properly and produce fruits and veggies again. I also agree they should fix the grafting since the benefits of trying to create rare plants that way are no longer there. I usually have a community garden in at least one world and had to resort to early morning trips there, in season, so that my sims could get some of the rare collectibles.

The calendar and the holiday system are both amazing as is the customization which is available there and to the seasons’ lengths. I don’t mind the sims getting tense during storms because in my view they are generally too happy and it is therefore interesting to try to distract them with games, fun, yoga, incense, massages, reading, hugs, etc. The only ones it is hard to soothe are the pets, poor things (except the cats sometimes, with catnip).

In the game, I don’t mind the rain. Windenburg is the rainiest for me with San Myshuno a close second (this is annoying during festivals to be sure). Even those neighbourhoods have sunny days too, though, while I find Willow Creek, Newcrest, Granite Falls and Glimmerbrook to be quite reasonable. I also love the blizzards in winter and the snow generally — my Sims always seem to want to make snow angels and snow people at the drop of a hat.

I forgot to mention that I also really like the bees — what an excellent addition with real tangible benefits to the growing and evolving of plants.
  • My only complaints are
    - lack of snow depth
    - lack of mist
    - lack of fog
    - sims keep defaulting to the black umbrella every time I switch households.

    I love everything else.

My sim is a detective and they go on patrol somewhere like Newcrest. They’ve got all these tasks to do for work, but it’s thunderstorming. My sim’s not going to be issuing any citations that day.

Later on my sim is invited to this dance party in the bluffs. They arrive and, wouldn’t you know, there’s a thunderstorm again. Had to end the event early and now my sim is angry about a lame party.

Then, I have stuff I’m working on and, surprise, it’s Love Day I’m not focusing on holiday traditions and I’m definitely not in the habit of going to my calendar and deleting every holiday. Sorry, my sim is living their dream exploring temples, but sure, make them depressed because Love Day was awful.

Seasons can be a huge pain. But those windows make up for it.
