I see nothing wrong there. All living creatures must die and death by old age is not supposed to be happy or funny. When my sims' cats died (both were about the same age, so they died within about 5 days of each other) and I realized I would not be able to plead, I simply decided to wait for them to come back as ghosts. Now I have two ghost cats and an elder sim living in an apartment. I want to see what will happen when the age dies (I think I have less than a week left).
