I love the baking skill and have had several sims run very lucrative and successful bakeries. I love how the baked goods can be decorated in multiple different ways by sims who have enough skill. I love how they use a variety of harvestables from the basegame. But yes, it is annoying that all sorts of recipes for pastries and baked goods are spread haphazardly through all three food-related skills.
Almond macaroons (cookies) appear in Gourmet Cooking as do several other desserts. Other cakes, like Wedding or Birthday Cakes, appear under Cooking, while a number of scones, bars and pastries are found under Baking. It would be nice if there were some rhyme or reason to how it was organized, like if most baked goods or anything with a pastry crust was located under Baking, while the difficult cakes and treats were under Gourmet Cooking, and the ordinary homestyle cooking only had the relatively easy desserts and the possible birthday cakes. Or else everything sweet could be in its own menu or something even if the recipes belonged to different skills. (I also wish that cupcakes could be baked in an ordinary oven and that horrible monstrous eyesore of a machine could be dispensed with forever)
On a separate but related matter, has anyone tried baking one of the pies from Get Together, like the Banana Cream pie or the Exotic Fruit Pie, or the Fish Pie, and entered it in the Fenwick Fair Pie Contest? I am just wondering if these pies even register or count in the competition, or if anyone has managed to win a ribbon with one of them.
