Please make NPCs care for their pets!

It's so depressing. I keep running into all these pets and they're constantly hungry and stinky and sad. Is there a way to make caring for their pets autonomous somehow? Like, I'm not constantly running into children who are starving to death and covered in filth, there's gotta be some way around this. As it is, it's like, no other sims are responsible enough to have pets unless I'm specially controlling them! It makes sense of strays, but why is poor Rosie always so stinky and hungry?? Don't Brent and Brant love her?? What's going on??

  • Well pets always get stinky when you leave the lot for some reason, so that might have something to do with it too... It's very annoying!
  • This annoys me to, when ever I have to take a pet to the vets, all the other pets are dirty and hungry to. I feel my sim has to bath and feed them all. there isn't even a pet food bowl full of food. I have to go into buy mode and place one and have my sim fill it up. very annoying.
  • Yeah I also find this annoying you can't let your sim have a pleasant run/walk/jog with out running into sad animals

I totally agree we shouldn't need to depend on mods and it should be fixed in game, but in the meantime would you happen to have a link?
  • I agree. Anytime I visit another household that has pets they are always hungry or need to go outside. I spend my own money to fill their bowl
  • Yes, it's very depressing. And I'm happy you started this thread, because I went to search to see if this was normal.
I came back to TS4 a few days ago and bought the cats and dogs EP, because I love them in the previous series. I still play TS2 & 3 and it doesn't happen there. So I wonder why they made it this way.

I'm also very confused about my dog. Since I wanted to try things out first, I started a family with a cat and dog with 'easy' traits. The cat is doing ok, but the dog is orange most of the time. The whole family is doing nothing else than look after him, but it doesn't seem to help. I even took him to the vet, but he's not ill and when ever I choose the option to see what's wrong, it says he's scared and just needs to calm down. But since I can't check anything on him, I don't know what to do. And yeah, I know it's a bunch of pixels and not a real dog, but it makes me so sad. This sweet and loyal dog, who's loved by everyone in the family is constantly miserable, because I can't check what's up. (and btw, I haven't installed mods yet, so that can't be the problem)

Needless to say that I'm quite disappointed. I really hope EA will take care of the npc pets (maybe in the form of a need reset at a certain time), and that they will make it so that we can at least see our pet's needs.

  • Since those rodent-objects get automatically taken care of, I guess it's no surprise this could also happen for cats and dogs, or it may not be that easy since after all the rodent is tied to an interactive object and cats and dogs are household Sims.

Could you perhaps name that specific Mod? Because I hate how everytime I visit any NPC's, and if they have pets, their pets are stinky, hungry, and sick! It is incredibly irritating that NPC's do not take care of their pet autonomously, It is a conundrum why the developers did not include such AI in the game. If anything, it is outright In game animal abuse.
  • give this mod a go http://littlemssam.de/no-sick-dirty-cats-dogs-walkbys/ has worked for me pretty well! I only see sick pets now at the vet's office.
