I'm finding that my pottery just breaks randomly without anyone breaking it so I've now glazed everything with unbreakable glaze. My Sim has left home with everything in tact and returned to an empty house to find things broken. If it's a wall item it just looks weird seeing bits sticking out of the wall. I had the same thing happen at an empty Small Business venue with items for sale.
For a more raw look on pottery I don't pick any glaze except Unbreakable. So it has no pattern at all.
