Puzzled. Are the schools K-12th Grade?

I decided to cut my Sim a little slack. He studies hard every school day. Every now and again, I allow him to "make friends" so that he possibly won't be so stressed by the time he gets home from school. So, you can imagine my surprise when he meets Lorelei, one of the Sims I created. She's a Child Sim. Erik is in high school. They certainly weren't kidding when they suggested Weirder Stories in this iteration. LOL

So, what weirdness have you happened upon in the course of your gameplay? Please, do share. :)

It may depend on the state on how they break up the grades.
One place I lived had grades pre-k to 6th grade, and merged 7-12th grade together in the same building.
Another place I lived had grades split with pre-k to about 5th grade, with 6-8th grade as its own middle school building, and 9-12th grade as a high school.
Also, in my high school, if you were a freshmen that scored well with math, you could take the more advance grade for it.
With Sims it is kind of hard to pinpoint what system they are using.

I know. My math score was such I was advised by the High School counselors to enroll in Algerbra-1 instead of Pre-Algebra. Turns out that's what Mr. Spellmeyer was teaching us. I realized this because the first semester of Algebra-1 was REVIEW for me. :open_mouth:

Yeah, where you can be placed in high school an be a bit different. Even if you are a freshman, and score well, you can end up taking junior or senior math classes.
Another interesting thing is that some grades had levels, you had honors classes, normal classes, and lower classes. I don't think it was all schools, but my school did that.

First quarter of my freshman year, I went with three of my friends (whom I knew were smart). They wanted to check the list for Honor Roll. Then they urged me to see if my name was there. I deferred thinking there was no way, but then one of them pointed me out on the list! To say I was gob-smacked is an understatement. I just didn't believe in myself.

I wasn't officially in honors classes, mostly in the normal classes, except for math. Math was my worst subject.
I did work hard and make the honors list, though, more than once. I found out, because my school did a thing where they listed students who got honors, and I was listed on there.
I kind of wish we could have something for the Sims that allow us to customize schools for the Sims. For example, make Snowy Escape similar to the Japan type schooling. Since their school structure is different.
I would just like the schools in Sims to be less generic, and give our Sim teens more stuff to do.
  • I have definitely noticed different states in the US separating grades differently. Where I grew up 1st through 6th is Elementary School, 7th and 8th are Junior High, and 9th through 12th are High School. But where I'm living now Elementary School is 1st through 5th, while 6th through 8th are considered Middle School. And I've even talked with a few people from other states where 8th grade is part of High School. So there is no consistency at all between states.

But even in the state I grew up in, for the larger towns, Junior High gets its own building typically. It was only combined with Elementary in my town because the town is so small. The population of my town was less than two thousand people when I was growing up there. That's also why we had no high school. High school students commuted to a school that was about 60 miles away. That was the closest place that had a high school.

I don't play with kids and teens a whole lot, but when I do, I've usually used The "kids and teens can quit school" mod by Triplis so I can set up an actively played "school" using the Get Together club system instead. I have them do activities there that actually work on skills they might need as adults. And that approach can be customized however you want through the club activities, club uniform, and what's on the lot.
  • It could be like the school(s) my aunt taught in before she retired. Where she lives, they called it an alternative school and the idea was that many grades would share a classroom so that the older students could help the younger ones as well as getting instruction from the teachers. I think her (my aunt) classroom contained grades 4-8.
  • Sometimes you get notifications about how well your kid is doing in school. Child Sims get messages about being at “Landgraab Elementary” and teen Sims get messages about “Buckingham High”. So that would imply children and teenagers go to different schools. But maybe there are opportunities for elementary and high school students to socialise? Maybe high school kids could help lead PE sessions occasionally or help kids with reading, or whatever.

I’m from the UK so the education system is different entirely!

Sounds like the little Old Red School House from the 19th century.
