Question about new update "Gender Preference"???

In the new patch, in the patch notes there's a note that says "Gender Preference now affects flirt options". Was there a new gender preference feature added? Was there one the whole time? I'm so confu...

I have a mod, show sim info, with it you can see hidden info on a given sim. I've noticed that a lot of them have some sort of gender preference. Most likely from autonimous interactions I would imagine, although some do seem to be created one way or the other from time to time.
So, it will be fun to see this play out in my games.
