Question about new update "Gender Preference"???

In the new patch, in the patch notes there's a note that says "Gender Preference now affects flirt options". Was there a new gender preference feature added? Was there one the whole time? I'm so confu...

Gender Preference has been in the game since day one. It only affected which gender Sims autonomously choose to flirt with though. It had no impact on whether a Sim responds to a romantic interaction positively or negatively.
