Question about new update "Gender Preference"???

In the new patch, in the patch notes there's a note that says "Gender Preference now affects flirt options". Was there a new gender preference feature added? Was there one the whole time? I'm so confu...

For everyone asking about bisexual sims, there is a mod that allows that here - http://modthesims.info/d/576385/gender-preference-set.html
there is an option for female, one for male, one for both, and one for none (that would be ace/aro).
