Question about sim life span?

I think usually about a day. I kinda doubt it is much more than that.

It depends on a few things...
1) what life span you're playing on. I normally play on Long, so I usually have a week or two.
2) Did your sim have the active trait? These sims live longer, by a few days to a couple of weeks (on long life)
3) Did your sim complete the athlete aspiration? These sims live much longer. Much longer. I have one whose Grand Niece (she didn't have any kids of her own) is within 30 days of dying (I use MCCC which will tell you how many days an elder has left) and she's still going. But you still get the notification when they reach within a week of when they would have died had they not had the aspiration.

Generally, however much time you normally see between the "It's almost X's Birthday" notification and their actual birthday is roughly the amount of time between the "Get X's affairs in order" and actual passing of old age.

Or at least that appears to be the case.

I think it is about a day, too, but it most likely depend on your life span settings. I don't think I ever changed the default.

And I never pay attention to those messages either, but I found that on the last day or so, there will be an animated pattern on the old sim's life stage bar in simology panel. I know that if aging is on while that pattern is dancing, the sim will die shortly. I normally play with aging off bar one day per year, so I will have time to arrange anything before that elder passes.

Thanks for all the info. I play on normal life span...was hoping Id at least have a few days...was not ready for sim to die, but do not want to cheat it away. (she is not athletic or particularly fit lol) Makes the sims fun though when u are caught off guard

If you have enough aspiration points you could buy one of the potions. I wouldn't consider that cheating since it's built into the game as a reward for their hard work.
