So I wasn't getting any reward points to buy the traits with because I wasn't completing the aspiration levels. My sim was only getting the small 25 point rewards for bonding with the bees or collecting the honey which caused a lot of problems with the bee stings and then needing to water her trees.
You can always switch out between aspirations while you're waiting on the other one to complete, could you not? Vampires who practice lots of skills and interact with people can knock out a few levels of other aspirations quickly. In fact just being a vampire can net you some points in the vampire-related aspirations.
