- i_love_frogs_11Seasoned AdventurerThe family trees in the sims 2 and 3 did recognize grandparents, yes. As for moving in, there was no specific action to ask grandparents to move in as caretakers, but I'm sure they could be asked to move in when playing TS3. TS2 works different with moving in and you have to merge households from the neighborhood screen.
- Ok, so that means I'm waiting to make full families! Got it.
- Gamer_Cat24Seasoned RookieIn Sims 2 there was a family tree that kept track of families, and Sims recognized family.
What was neat in the Sims two, and moved out family members to start a new life, they had an icon you could click, and green lines would could them with all their families throughout the town.
Like the person mentioned above you had to merge some Sims will in town mode, but the family system kept good track of your Sims. - SEREFRASSeasoned HotshotWill we finally get Great-Grandparent, adopted Step-parents, Great-Aunties/Great-Uncles & In-Laws?
- Gamer_Cat24Seasoned RookieThe family tree for Sims 4 isn't too bad, but my biggest issue is that some relatives that marry an aunt/uncle are just some stranger and not an uncle/aunt.
Also, I tend to confuse the family tree a bit as well. I have had some families where one male Sim is married to one female Sim, but has fathered a child with another woman that he isn't romantically attached to. The family tree doesn't know how to really place it. It recognizes parent, child, sibling, and no connection to the other parent.
I hope we get a more detailed family tree, and the aunts/uncles, and other branches of it are recognized more. - EmmaVaneRising Hotshot

I know we don't have info on how S4 is going to work but in the others... could you link grandparents that were already made and moved into their own house as grandparents?
You can do this now via Manage Households and the cas.fulleditmode cheat. Sims have to be in the same household to add familial links in CAS:- Combine the households via Split & Merge (I recommend leaving at least 1 sim in each household to keep finances/home ownership intact. Maybe just move in 1 parent with their parents to form the bonds, for example).
- Turn on CAS Full Edit Mode.
- Edit the combined household to add the Grands as parents to the Parent sim.
- Split & Merge the households again via Manage Households to move sims back where they started.
- Enter the Parent household and check the family tree via each sim to check connections.
I also use this method to reconnect Johnny Zest to the Landgraabs (he might not be their son, but that makes the most sense to me based on ages and lack of other Landgraabs).
If making fresh sims you could also just make the Grand(s) and Parent(s) first in CAS (2-6 sims), place and split off the Grand(s) into separate household(s), before re-entering CAS via the Parent family and adding kids. - Combine the households via Split & Merge (I recommend leaving at least 1 sim in each household to keep finances/home ownership intact. - oh, i like that!
- I hope we will.
- ooh, thank you! I"m going to try that.
