Random Outfit Question

I don't have the savvy to search for this specific topic, so I'm not sure if this has been asked before:

When playing rotational play, why do I see my other sims (the ones not being played at the moment) walking around in random outfits? These outfits have not been picked out by me for any of the clothes categories. They will be wearing them when I go into their households in-game, too. However, when I manually tell them to change, the strange outfit is not in any category. I'm not sure why they'd be wearing them in the first place.
They're not career outfits, seasonal outfits, or what-have-you. Just random clothes put together.

It's really frustrating because I'm trying to play in a certain "time period" and I'm seeing my sims running around in modern day clothes! It takes me out of the immersion!

  • Every time I open the game, I have to go to each of my households and make them change... :(
  • They're probably wearing situational outfits. It's annoying to a lot of folks, believe me. If you use mods, there are quite a few that get rid of it. If not, I'm afraid you're probably stuck with it. Maybe someone else knows of a mod free way to control it.
  • Some of the careers don't have uniforms or specific outfits and will cause sims to wear random "career" outfits. EA developers also apparently thought it was a great idea to have random outfits for San Myshuno festivals, rain, walking down the street in certain neighborhoods, the magic realm, and being or imitating a vampire at night. Any of these "situations" could be causing the weird outfits on your sims.

    It drives me nuts.

I use several mods by Bienchen to get rid of most of those random situation outfits on sims that have good wardrobes. If you can/are willing to use mods here's the link https://deichschafblog.de/bienchen/outfit-mods-outfit-mods/

I think that MCCC also has settings for banning situation outfits. But I'm not sure. Others might be able to help you with that if you are interested.

Without mods, unfortunately, there's not much you can do about it. I don't know why the devs thought this "feature" was a good idea, but it is apparently by design.

Situational outfits? What are those? Are there outfits beyond the ones we pick out? I have a few mods, including MCCC, which is my main one.

@GlacierSnow gave a far better description of situational outfits than I could have lol. If you have mccc, then you can disable them, although I'm not sure how quite to go about it since I don't play rotationally and don't care what other sims besides my own wear. I could try to look over Deaderpool's documentation and try to find it for you.

    EDIT:

    Copied from Deaderpool's site:

MCCC -> MC Dresser -> ReplaceSituationOutfits

This setting allows replacing of 'Situation' outfits for various situations in the game where NPC's tend to dress in totally randomly generated, awful outfits. Rather than wearing the Situation outfits, this setting can be set for the different situations to wear a different outfit instead.
