Indeed, Simlish has become one of the mainstay parts of The Sims since the first game.
The main reason for that is that the dialogue wouldn't become repetitive. According to The Sims Wiki's article of Simlish:
- Simlish was created because Will Wright, creator of The Sims, knew that the game needed dialogue, but thought that using real life languages such as English would cause the dialogue to be repetitive and would be expensive translating the entire dialog Sims may say.
While other reason was to have the player resonate on the emotion instead on their speech according to Wikipedia's article:
- While developing SimCopter (1996), designer Will Wright explicitly avoided using real-world languages such that players could resonate with the emotions of the characters rather than their speech.
So yeah, Simlish is something invented for the game and has become one of the iconic parts of the game.

Another benefit of having simlish as audio is that the audio doesn't has to be translated and recorded in every available language. Only the text needs to be translated.
Suly suly! I love Simlish, it's a beloved Sim's feature. The only problem is remembering not to use it in real life. I've nearly done that so many times.
I also love how songs on the music stations have been translated for the game. It's so cool how songs you might recognise from real life are being sung in Simlish.
