The changes are just to the base, not including all the social variances from various packs.

ETA: And patches. It's Ground Zero. Anything else that changes social isn't affected...just the original foundation. So I guess it affects it a bit, but not as much as if they had rebuilt the entire thing.

Actually, the base is what affects it the most. From what I can see, most of the other dynamics add or subtract from the number which determines if the social interaction is a success or failure. It works like when you try and talk about music to a non-music loving sim, it fails much more often. Sims you are compatible with you DO get a bonus to the relationship gain(an extra .50 for amazing, .25 for good). But after all that. if you only get half the amount of points for a certain age group to age group, you're only going to get half the points period if you succeed.

My adult sim succeeds at most of his interactions, but he's still not making friends, because he's not inviting children, infants and toddlers over to his house to chat with.

EDIT - I just found a crossagetuning_pie_menu_score bit, with a multiplier for ages with other ages, but it makes no sense because it's not even close to what's mentioned above. Or I can't read it, lol. So no real idea what's going on.
  • Seriously, I'm going to have to cheat my sim younger from adult to young adult (I don't feel like starting over yet again). Adults are useless for socializing with grownups, now. I usually finish the beloved aspiration in a year or less (too fast, probably). Now my sim has 4 friends after a year, and the rest are barely past stranger.
And the age difference pluses and minuses aren't slight between the two, they are overwhelming. Elders, toddlers, and children are about the same for both, and pretty fast. Infants are slower for YA, but who cares for those few days? But YA to teens gains is unchanged, while A to teens is VERY SLOW (in capitals). YA to other YA, slightly faster than before, while A to YA is slightly slower. And YA to A is unchanged, while A to A is much slower. So adults don't even get along with their own kind.
The dumbest thing about all this to me is it treats young adults as if they are a tiny age range, just past teen, and adults like they are all about to turn elder. It should be an age range. In a perfect game each day they would get older; I know that's hard and I don't expect exactly that, but this is crazy stark between the age groups.

Edit-went in and changed my adult sim to a young adult and made three friends in two days. Sorry, but the changes are anything but subtle, at least when it comes to adults.

So to sum up. For adults, you get less points for a positive interaction with every age group older than a child (except elders, they stayed the same). And you lose more points for a negative interaction with all those ages as well. So if you get two positives and one negative out of three, you're pretty much gaining nothing. Terrible design.
  • What about married couples where one is an adult and one is an elder? Will they easily lose their relationship points too?

If they had negative interactions they would lose points in bigger chunks than before. It's complicated; it looks like if the adults does the negative interaction there's now a much bigger loss, but if the elder does it, it's the same loss as before. But at least with those two ages paired, they gain them as the same rate as before.
