Trying to be anything other then 'nice' just feels immensely out of place.
Oh god, this drives me mad. Even when you're actively trying to have a bad conversation, sims start autonomously being nice to each other! You'll queue up a load of mean interactions only for the other sim to "ask about day" or something equally stupid. It's still possible to make enemies, of course, but it feels like the game is actively fighting you on it.
