Room renovation: what do you renovate?

Hello. For "room renovation" do you just pick whatever room you want to renovate?

Do you only renovate one room?

Is a "room" an entire area that the only way out is some sort of doorway? (for example, sometimes the hallway to the bedrooms is part of the "living room" area and sometimes a kitchen is in the same "room" as a living room area - one big area)

I couldn't find help guides that spoke about this.
Thanks in advance!

  • I usually just do one room, but when I did the pleasant twin's student house I did both of their rooms, maybe it's really loose and it's just don't do the whole house if it's for a room?
  • My first few renos were "room" renos, and I chose the room. One "room" from a house in Strangerville, had the living room and dining area combined; I did the whole area and she liked it.

I had a "kitchen" reno yesterday. It was in the same room as the living room, with no wall divisions between the two areas and no actual dining room, only an island with a few stools. The kitchen itself was galley style. I stuck to the kitchen area and redid the whole thing, including the kitchen island counters and stools, while ignoring the living room space. I redid the floor tiles in the kitchen but left the walls alone. They liked it.

It depends on what budget they give me. Sometimes it's not enough for what I want to do and what they want, sometimes I have a lot of money left over even after renovating a room, so I do another one. As per the game itself, it will let you renovate however many rooms you want. I fing the restrictions (ie. no new floor tiles allowed) don't need to be followed. The only restriction I found the game really block is the no new walls for renovations. Which is a pain when they want a walk-in closet reno, but don't yet have a walk-in closet. The system of fail or like for the sims is completely based on their likes and dislikes. So if you put enough of those things they like, and show it off to them during the reveal, they'll like it and you'll get paid.

In build mode, you can select a room by clicking on any wall or floor. That will show you what the game considers to be part of the same room.
