  • I seriously need help with the roomate situatuon...
So my sim put out an ad for roomates. Then she made three separate bedrooms (each with a single bed in them), and each have their own private bathroom (really giving them the luxury).
But after i accepted two sims as my roomates. I got the message that the ad for roomates was taken down cuz i didn't have any more beds!?! But I still have one bedroom with a bed extra... (which means there should be space for one more roomate...)
I only have one sim and a unplayable ghost cat (but it is part of household) that I play with, so there shouldn't be too many sims there either.. No matter what I do I can't get that last roomate... Anyone please got a solution? or at least something i maybe can try?
I play totally without mods (and I don't wanna use mods either cuz i don't know how to make it work, And I'm too scared it will mess up my save file or game in general...)
Any tips would be appreciated since I got no clue what to do..
  • @PinkyPus it's because of a cat. It's a bug, but pets counts as sims in this situation, and you should add one extra bed.

Ah, so the roommate system sees pets as actual sims? And because in op's situation they now have 4 "sims" (one being the cat) with a total of 4 beds on their lot, they'd need a fifth bed to add the 3rd roommate (which would be the fifth sim on that lot/in that household).

Yeah obviusly. I tried adding another bed now. Just made a tiny unacessable basement with a bed in it. And it worked. Now i can put up the roomate ad again and fill my last room.

Even though i think it's a bit stupid .. Hope they fix this. Maybe making it so if you at least have one pet bed to each pet ( if you have more than one), the pets shouldn't need to "claim" a bed when they never use it anyways

    > How many roommates can you have actually? And can you lock doors to/for them?

You can have a total of 8 sims (including pets) living in your house/lot. So if you play with only one sim, and no pets, you should be able to have seven roomates. I know there is a mod who makes the max number of sims living in the house to 10. but since i don't play with mods idk what mod it actually is. I just read somewhere that it does exist.
Just remember that each sim who moves in need their own bed. Or else they won't be roomates.

When it comes to locking doors, you can look them pretty much however you want to. I personally lock the door to my sims bedroom and bathroom so only my sim can enter.
And if you want to lock doors so roomates can't roam in eachothers rooms, you can look spesific sims out of one or several rooms. So i usually lock all the roomates out of each others rooms, so they can only access their own.
If you click on a door you get different locking options

Hope this explanation made sense :D

    > I am busy building a 2 floor apartment with also 1 apartment at ground level+basement garden, so basically an apartment block for 3 'households'. I was thinking to have my own sim+dog live in the 2th floor, lock the doors for the other roommates and then have each roommate live on a separate floor as if they have their own house. Like this, I can make apartment blocks work much better than before.
    > I will then lock their doors to only let the roommates that belong tot that apartment in. Maybe i will put two or more roommates on one floor. So Im glad we can have this many roommates, cause I was afraid it was limited to one or 2 before reading this thread.

Have they changed it so you can have roomates at all without having the discover university though? I have all the packs, so I'm really bad at paying attention to what belongs to which pack and what's in the base game xD
But if you are able to have roomates anyways it should still be a total household of 8 members that's the limit
