Save File

I have played The Sims forever, but, I’ve only just found out what a ‘Save File’ is duh! So I’ve watched you tube videos on how to do it, I’ve clicked ‘save as’ and given it a name, so what I can’t find out is, when I click and play on the save file and I’ve finished playing, do I click save or save as? TIA

  • 'Save' stores the game at that very moment in the save you are currently playing. You will override/update the save you are using.

'save as' creates a new copy. When you save as and continue playing in the game session, you will be playing in your new save.

It works just like save and save as in other programs like 'word', excel,...

I wouldn't create a save as every single time because that creates a lot of save files which can cause longer loading times.

Just for the sake of being complete: If you start playing next time and you are on the main loading screen, you should know resume game (the button with the picture of your last played sim) will automatically take you to the last save file you saved. Load save will give you a complete list of all save games to choose from.

  • I thought that a "save file" was using another players' save!

About saving my games though, i do somewhat like GalacticGirl herein abovementionned exept i do everything in double. After a mishap some years ago, i have two copies of each game i play (always using "save as" ofc) . And i have 4, 3 that i play actively atm. I cant remember exactly why i do this but its been useful a couple times since. And with the graphics glitch recently i proved myself again, i saved and found the glitch after! I had a lot which didnt load, it was Dx9 but i didnt know i thought it was a bug in the event and/or the lot itself. So i saved after having moved out i would have lost all my progress in my garden if it wasnt for the second copy of this current game.

So, i am preparing my next save file, this is the first one i did about the time when HSY came out i was bigly into make overs lol here is my BRATZLAND savefile

Just to add to this, I have found that when you continue to "save" and something happens or you don't want to save that particular part, but you just did, you can go through the saves and pick where you want to start from again. I always use "save as" and have not found that it bogs my system down with multiple saves, but I also delete the previous "save as" to ensure it doesn't bog down. I have found it makes my computer run better by doing that. I also don't hit resume, as I was experiencing issues that was causing me to not be able to click on the build mode. I think it was an error with a patch, but I just don't even bother with it anymore.

  • To continue on with this same thought, I always do a Save As when starting a new gaming session. Recently, I have found myself needing to replay something and I made the mistake of doing a save, instead of the Save As. Well, sure enough, I found myself needing to replay it again. But, when I went back to the previous Save As, I realized the game wasn't starting at 5:39AM like it did the first time I went back to redo, as it were. Note to Self: Do a Save As, not a simple save, which overwrites the save. 🤥

My going back to a Save As is in response to what another player suggested, that using the save recovery can corrupt the save. Whether that's true or not, I'm not taking any chances. As for the number saves files it creates, I'm not having any difficulties with it, even on this non-gaming laptop I used when my gaming rig died.

    I hope this helps you.
