I just thought of something dealing with the refrigerator. Whenever I have a sim move to a new location and they take their stuff with them, for some reason the refrigerator doesn't allow me to put anything in it. I have to sell off the old one and replace it. Maybe that is what is going on with the item you are having issues with.
