Scenarios and Story lines

Does anyone else find scenarios difficult because you absolutely do not have the attention span to follow through with one? Am I the only person who can't seem to have ongoing story-based saves or generational saves or etc? I see all of these long stories posted and people saying that they have had their saves going for years and I'm just like...my saves last generally a few days (sometimes one day or two) at a time, then I don't play them for awhile, then I go back to them eventually, I just can't...maybe it's because of my illnesses but I wish that I could do more of a story line or whatevs, and it just seems like it's not meant to be for me. I guess I get bored? I dunno. I'm hoping that I'm not the only person. I hope that the way I play the game isn't entirely wrong.

If its challenge saves like say 100 baby challenge or something:
    not really into it either
I find that I just don't like having rules
my brains always want to rebel instantly if you give it rules
brains will want to do everything rules tell me not to do just because

I can relate. Telling me NOT to touch the red button, makes my obsession with the red button grow. And the only way to stop the urge is push the red button.

In context of the thread, I've also discovered I don't like challenges. They're too stifling for me. I don't mind using the assigned traits, aspirations, careers, etc. from challenges but to actually adhere to the rules, I'm good. I've attempted many challenges over the years and the only one that I sort of stuck to (through the first generation) was the I'm a Lover Challenge. The rules aren't too stifling for that one though.

I only came to the realization that I'm not a challenge player recently. Ya know, after I started a Let's Play of the 7D Legacy challenge for my YouTube channel. Now, I'm thinking of forgoing the entire challenge and just playing it as a legacy, the way I mentioned above.

I didn't mention this in my original comment, but I have tried a couple scenarios: Stuck in Their Shadow and Aliens Stole My Parents. I liked them pretty well, even though I failed Aliens Stole My Parents. I played the Goth family for that one, and Alexander aged up before I could make the money needed.
  • It would be pretty sad if people were playing long saves or long-running stories out of some sense of obligation :(
I hope those folks are doing it for fun :)
I hope you play in the way that is fun for you too!

I haven't seen many story threads in the Stories section for short saves, but a lot of the posts in threads like "post the last screenshot" or "what happened in your game today, non-serial version" or "screenshot spammers" are either from short saves or from people who bounce around from one household to another a lot.

I post in the non-serial story thread and the screenshot spammers thread! Those are fun.
  • I tend to do whatever I want with my Sims 4, no challenges, except for a scenario I am doing for both my PC basic version, and my PS4 that has almost everything.
For basic gameplay for my Sims 4, I tend to come up with an idea, and just wing most of it. Want to make canon and noncanon, or alternate universes of a series? Make all of those, and throw them in the same world. Want the Sim, but want different versions of them as babies or adults? Make them all and let the chaos unfold. I tend to do this, and have normal gameplay, but this kind of stuff keeps me entertained.
Now on to the scenario I am doing, it is the same one, which is the one million simoleon challenge. I started it on my PS4, and it isn't not going how I wanted in a good way. My Sim I created for it, is now married to Clement Frost, and has a son and daughter with him. It is keeping my attention with the scenario, because a chance meeting lead to an entirely different gameplay I had planned.
For my PC, I just have the base game for it, and I am playing the same scenario. Process is much slower, and not as entertaining as the PS4 version, but I am working with it. It was really boring with just the Sim I was playing with, so I gave her a science baby to make the gameplay more fun for me. That made the challenge more fun, because I could focus on the scenario, but also break it up with family gameplay as well.
I don't really have a set way I play the Sims, I tend to go with whatever I want to do. I don't really like Challenges or Scenarios, because I feel that is more stress than it is worth. So, if you don't play "normally" or the Challenges/Scenarios that is fine, because no two players are the same.
  • I am a serial restarter too. I start all over everytime a new EP or GP comes out and most times just for the heck of it. I make a new sim in CAS and think wow I like them so off I go into another game. It try to do legacy game play think I made it to gen 6 and my old computer went belly up. That was a couple years ago. I used to think I was strange re starting all the time. Now I just go with the flow and have fun. I am not good at making up story lines so my sims just have to do that for me.
  • There is nothing wrong with the way you play as long as you have fun. I have always enjoyed setting up towns and neighborhoods in Sims 2 & 3 more than actual long term play. In 4 it's hard to do that when there is only one actual world. But there are ways around that, that are just as much fun as anything else you can do.

I was talking with my partner about the stories that people come up with for their characters, and I realized you know, I have all the time in the world during the week, but I don't have the time to invest in that sort of thing lol. I like having my sims create their own stories too. It's interesting to see what they do.
