I find that the holidays tend to be more family/home based, though you can add the Grand Meals to restaurant menus if you have Dine Out which works great for my single Sims. I even noticed if you have DU and Seasons installed, if you're at University on a holiday the cafeteria will serve a holiday dinner and that counts to fulfill the Grand Meal tradition if you have that scheduled. (Had both the Turkey Dinner and the Tofurkey Dinner available.)
There aren't that many traditions that can only be done by children; many can be done by both children and adults. Some of the traditions might be ignored by household members (teens tend to ignore a lot of them).
