Selecting random Sims from the gallery

The last couple of times I've started a game from scratch I've clicked on "randomise from the gallery" since there are some really great Sims that are available. However, I've found when I started playing them that they have several other traits that weren't apparent in CAS. For example, one Sim had the Soulmate trait for completing that aspiration & also had the Never Weary trait. These were on top of the regular three traits that you're able to select at start-up. Yesterday I started playing another Sim that I selected randomly from the gallery & found that he came with the Savant reward as well apparently completing the gardening aspiration. Both were YA Sims. Do people play Sims for ages before adding them to the gallery? I feel like it takes away some of the challenge of the game if they come with rewards or traits that aren't usually available when you first start a new game.

  • It does take some of the challenge away, but I imagine there are lots of people who don't particularly care for the challenge. Different people using the gallery might be looking for different things.

My advice would be to create a twin of the sim you downloaded, and play that instead. This would ensure a fresh start.
  • When I make Sims and upload them to the Gallery, sometimes they will come with a few preset traits, skills, career levels, and points in something (like if vampires or celebs) as part of their background personality when they start. Usually no more than a few of those skills are either increased (or decreased) and I leave the rest up to you. I do that only in the interests of keeping their original character somehow intact. In fact, for my CAS project I've now been adding in reputation levels and even Fame levels to some sims as appropriate. Mind you not every Sim I make has these either; many are just made in CAS and uploaded as-is.
  • This is why I always create a twin in CAS if I’m going to be using a gallery sim as a base.
  • I'll have to do that in future I think. Of course I only find out about these extra reward traits when I start playing the Sim since they don't show up in CAS. I couldn't understand why the first one was always bright eyed & bushy tailed!
