Selling Puppies & Their Prices

Despite having Cats & Dogs since it came out, I just recently learned that you can sell your puppies and kittens. I've noticed that not all offspring are equal in price. Does anyone know which kind are more profitable? Or what the "formula" is, so to speak?

I feel as though the prices aren't random at all. I believe trough some testing it may have to do with the traits the puppies have. My highest puppy I've sold was for $896, who had the traits Vocal, Playful, and Loyal. I'm going to make a family with 7 puppies with those traits just to sell and see if, indeed, it isn't random.

And if it's not random, I plan on making a chart of all the possible trait out comes and test their prices. This would take awhile maybe. We'll see what happens.

I'm only testing small dogs for now, I have no clue if large dog puppies have different prices (I should have a mix of large and small for the 7 puppy test. :O Why didn't I think of that sooner? xD) and I won't be doing cats (since they have their own set of traits). One project at a time.

Another question for you guys.. do you know if you can sell them without your sim getting a very sad 2 day moodlet? every time i breed them and sell their puppies or kittens the sims flip their lids. :/

When npc comes to take away puppies/kittens at ground floor, i am making my sims go upstairs on first floor and do something like use computer or have a shower. This way i never get sad moodlet :)
  • I wish there was a way we could sell puppies dogs kittens and cats to neighbours. like the selling table. sims come around to actually buy them, after we put up an advert, or start sale.
anyway. interesting thread, I didn't know we could sell them either. do the parents of the puppies get sad??
  • I wish they would add the ability to make a pet shop so you can sell the puppies and kittens that way. Over the phone is just so impersonal. Then maybe the sims wouldn't get so sad.

It is becoming illegal in a lot of countries now - and as countries adopt these laws EA supports it as they are a big supporter of the worldwide Animal Welfare organizations - and I say good for them. Pet mills need to be put out of business - no baby should suffer like some of these little ones (and their parents) do, so I for one, am glad EA supports it. Thankfully it is becoming law in many USA states as well, and it will be a happy day when it is country wide. So I am glad the Sims now support not selling animals in shops.
  • @Writin_Reg I agree. I love the fact that they're against Pet mills, but not all pet stores provide animals from mills or chained breeders. Some are just family stores and self bred. That's what the other person was suggesting EA should add.
  • I got a good price for my pup and I don't even remember the traits, but I waited until he was all potty trained and the care level was good overall. but not excessively managed. I had wondered if the extent of potty training helps. Did you notice if that factor/progress of each pup helps? I was curious but have not done another batch yet to compare. They are a small breed only had the one pup in that batch.
