sending my sims to the gym

I was thinking of doing some kind of weight loss challenge for a gameplay idea. I've never tried to have an overweight sim lose weight before, but do they lose weight fast or slow if I send them to the gym every day? I mean, I don't want them to lose all their weight in 2 sim days. What would be a good amount of time per day to work out so the progress is kind of slow?

    Don't forget jogging! A time-tried classic :)
Does it have a different level effect as using lets say, the weight machine, though? I feel like it would, since it is less strenuous.

i have noticed that sims are taking longer jogs these days
  • nobody mentioning yoga?? Definitely the fastest way to lose weight ;) visible changes after every session! I have to feed my yoga sims cake to stop them from being skinny lol

I find pushing the limits either jogging or running on the treadmill to be pretty effective too. Swimming is the slowest way for sure, I started a max overweight sim off in Sulani, and after maxing fitness skill through swimming everywhere, I could barely notice a difference in his weight..

The food and weight system is surprisingly deep considering the rest of the games mechanics. Each meal has different caloric content too, so your sim won’t get fat eating salad, but will eating cake. I used to get my sims making grand meals all the time as it took them longer to cook, so they’d build cooking skill faster, but they’d also end up fat from eating grand meals all the time lol so watch out what you feed them ;)
  • @aaronrulz Now that you mention it, that is happening in my game too! My sim jogged for as long as two hours and a half, and I had to manually "x" the activity because his "fatigued" moodlet started fiddling with his comfort. Funny, I don't remember sims getting fatigued from light jogs in the past. Another thing: in the middle of his jog, he literally came home, went up and down the stairs, and left the house again to continue his route ?
  • I love using the yoga mat for my sims at university- they have all that fat inducing food brought in by their roommates and they always end up piling the weight on, but a daily yoga session works wonders.

Does cycling lose weight? My favourite place to cycle is the beaches of Brindleton Bay but I haven't done it enough to see if it keeps my sims trim.
  • The workout videos on the tv work too. The dance one helps lose weight and the other helps gain muscle. My sim went from pear to hourglass shaped in a few days dancing to videos... she isn't skinny but she looks good!

Yoga both takes off weight and adds muscle. I'm not sure how much time it takes, but Siobhan Fyres started making yoga streaming videos and a couple of weeks in she was super skinny with awesome abs.

Maybe treat it like real life? I think about 30-60 minutes of cardio a day, 3-4 times a week is realistic. Perhaps even 2-3 times a week only. You can also swim for that amount of time, or do yoga, or jog. As long as you're not doing cardio for too long in one session, your sims shouldn't lose weight too quickly.

I myself am impatient - some of my female sims (or really, my simself's daughters) tend to gain weight fairly quickly for some reason so I send them to the gym and make them work out energized all day pushing the limits until they get back to their normal weight. Then they don't visit for another month.

I have my teen sims go to the gym quite often, since they tend to age up into quite chubby figures. I'm wondering--- is weight genetic in the Sims 4??? I guess it would make sense, but the thing is, my teens' parents are pretty fit too. ?

It makes me wonder if it's genetic because the aforementioned daughters' biological parents are two male sims, but one (simself) has a fit body preset and the other parent has the 'fat' body preset (but he himself isn't fat or even overweight at all). Hmm.

Anyway, off track.. make sure they don't scarf down too many of those Monte Cristo sandwiches either! I like the Sugar Free Carob Coconut Cake as a sweet treat for my active sims.

@KiniHokulani Yeah I find it strange how things are programmed in the game ? Bright side is there's never a bad time to exercise :)

    In my experience...

Weight Machine: Good for muscle definition, doesn't seem to do anything regarding weight loss.
Treadmill: Good for weight loss, doesn't seem to do anything regarding muscle definition.
Punching Bag: I honestly have no clue what this does besides raise your Fitness skill. Maybe relieve anger?
Climbing Wall (Fitness Stuff): Claims to be able to loose weight and build muscle, I can confirm the muscle definition.

I still can't believe we only have 4 fitness objects/machines. I think we need a few more. It would be cool to have dumbbells and/or bench press that is functional. Hey it could be a new death if the weights fall on the sim while working out !! lol. Death by dumbbell!!

Freeweights meant to be done with a spotter. Alone, you risk death. I love it! And the sims working out on them together build friendship.
