Seriously, it does happen and not that rarely.
Let me just restate that this is the first time I can recall my Sim finding anything and I've had the pack since it came out. Of course, I recently repaired my game, too.
ETA: I've seen such weirdness when a policeman in the detective career has to pat down a criminal, but never before when searching pockets. Just a darned good thing she did. That kitchen upgrade part could have broken the wash machine!
