I woul prefer to just have new worlds. If anything the only update I would want is for them to add a secret location for every wolrd, I would prefer new ones.
This right here may be the answer that pleases everyone.
The way to possibly update existing worlds is to create new neighborhoods attached to that world.
Neighborhoods within a world are separated by loading screens anyway. So, I wonder how difficult it would be to add new neighborhoods without touching the rest?
The new neighborhoods wouldn't be 'secret', but they could be a much needed addition to worlds that are already much too small.
Of course, the map would need to be updated (which EA has already proved is possible). Make use of all of the dead spaces that exist on the map already.
For example, IIRC, San Myshuno is an archipelago. How hard would it be to create a new neighborhood that consists of beaches and shops and, perhaps, a few hotels?
Since the game already makes use of portkeys (elevators and boats) and gateways (trees, bushes, and mine entrances) it would be cool to add updated expansions to preexisting worlds in exactly the same way.
In the case of San Myshuno. If you want to get to the new part of the world, just take the subway. As, they're already there, make use of them.
I dunno. It just seems to me that every world in every game since the first was capable of being modified/expanded, in some fashion, without destroying existing saves. What makes The Sims: DIY any different?
If there really is something that makes it impossible to expand or update existing neighborhoods, well, shame on whoever the person(s) were that green-lighted such a project. Expansion and the ability to modify as the game progresses should have been on the list of must-haves since the point of conception.
