As for something that captures the vibe I would go with for Alexander as a Merman, I think the song in the spoiler captures a strong element of what merfolk are.
This comes from outside the sim community. Of course I don’t take credit for the song, and I’m sharing it to emphasize how I see the nature of some merfolk.

I know the Goths have an eerie and dark vibe. I do want to capture that shadow to the colorful appearance of merfolk in my story.
