I think your merman concepts look great! My Alexander is a spellcaster with the erratic and bookworm and creative traits. So it's kind of appropriate that earlier today my sim ran into him in the magic realm talking to a bookshelf.
I kind of lean spellcaster so you don't risk any hybrid problems. But I do like the merman look.
