As far as we can see they mentioned removing the "bow" to the shrine, but it's up in the air that the whole shrine will stay in the game or not. They haven't mentioned it at all.
On your second point about religion. Culture and religion kinda go hand in hand. For example in a lot of Asian cultures they honour the ancestors (hence my idea to change the shrine to a ancestor one). Often when it comes to cultural diversity & representation it is tied in with religion.
A great example of this is the Hijabs they added for Muslims/islamic representation. The need to cover the hair is a RELIGIOUS REQUIREMENT in these cultures. So already religion is in the game. Which is why I stand by what I say, that the shrine should be turned into ancestor's/spirit shrine, as it is intrinsic to such cultures.
