Sim kids and future relationships

I usually find someone when they're teen or older.
I don't like planning their relationships since sometimes it goes downhill after a while, or they just don't mesh well (even though genetics wise their babies would've been great). A lot of my sims end up butting heads with who I'd hope they'd get with, or they just keep missing each other when I want them to have some sort of dramatic encounter.

I have more fun following what their autonomy or whims dictate over my own plans for them since it keeps me more interested in their relationship development than planning. LOL

When they're kids I usually have them "make friends" at school for a day then pick who they're going to marry based on the 4ish kids they met.

That's basically what I do as well. I have MCCC so I have plenty of kids to choose from usually because of the story progression. I do agree with @Cement though, sometimes things just don't work out... which is why I usually have a backup. XD My current heir (unless I decide to go with the younger brother, I'm still not sure) is a child and he already has two possible mates. LOL It'll depend on personality for sure. I was thinking of making him date one of the girls in high school while maintaining a good friendship with the other, then once they're closer to aging up they "realize" they've had feelings for each other for a long time - stereotypical friends to lovers plotline that we've probably all seen a million times.

Yup, I make them in a different save though and turn off auto age to give them a chance to get some skills and a decent level job. Don’t want my sim being the only one bringing money in. One time I Iet a friend of my child sim who I thought I’d give a chance to date in the future come over my house and the kid started making a mess with paint all over. Asked him to leave and never let him come back.

I've done that before. I actually used to do it all the time before I downloaded MCCC.

Yes. I choose the prettiest/handsomest one to carry on the family line hahaha

I always make several families to play on rotation. A lot of the times my teens will have a club and hang out and I'll see if any of them mesh well. If not, I'll introduce a new sim into the world when they age up to adults. They're "new in town" ;)

For my favorites I usually download somebody from the gallery.
It's annoying to try to get the kids to have many friends when you can't leave the lot without disrupting what the other sims in the household are doing. I don't understand why I can't set a parent with full needs to doing something and then leave the lot with the kid. Sure, the sims left on the lot won't die, but they also won't do what was already in their queue.

I'm very much a planner. I usually create a new sim or download one from the gallery for my sim to marry/have children with. I use townies sometimes.
